Add a personal touch to your product range on Deliveroo by using your own images. It’s a quick and effective way to boost your store’s visibility on the platform and attract new customers.

If you would like to use your own images, you must ensure that they meet our brand guidelines. There are four key requirements:

  1. Product layout and placement: Does the general layout of the image look aesthetically pleasing?

  2. Aspect ratio and size: Are the images appropriately sized to fit our platform?

  3. Image specifications: Are the images formatted in the correct way?

  4. Rights/legal ownership: Do you own the intellectual property rights for the images you want to upload?

Let’s deep-dive into each of these elements to make sure your products look great on Deliveroo.

1. Product Layout and Placement

Great product presentation is important when showcasing your selection on the platform.

Hero Images

With hero images, you can show:

  • a collection of products

  • a single hero product

If possible, we recommend that you display a collection of products in the hero image to showcase to customers the variety of your product range. Make sure that your products are always taking up the majority of the shot, leaving just a small margin at the top, bottom and sides of the frame.

No human subjects or body parts should be shown in the imagery, as we have a strict policy on this. However, some retail categories are allowed to depict hands and wrists for demonstrative purposes if absolutely necessary (see more in the Item Images section).

Tips:

  • Be mindful of your logo placement. If you want to add your own logo, put it on the left-hand side of the image, but make sure that it isn’t overlapping the product itself.

  • Don’t overcrowd your hero image. This will be the first photo on the menu that your potential customers will see. Avoid overcrowding the hero image as this may look messy and confusing.

  • Be authentic and don’t use overly photoshopped images.

  • Try not to lay items flat down and instead shoot them in a free-standing position.

  • Choose a simple and uncluttered background so that your products really stand out.

Item Images

These images should showcase the final product that will be delivered to your customers.

Tips:

  • Focus: Make sure your product is in the centre of the shot and in focus without visible grain or pixelation. For images with multiple items, at least one item should be clearly visible and in focus.

  • Background: Similarly to hero images, all menu item images should be photographed on a white background. However, neutral colours are acceptable, if it’s necessary to highlight your product. Try using natural light to avoid dark shadows and reflections on packages.

  • Text and product branding: Make sure there’s no product branding or text outside of the depicted product. Take a look at the example below.

  • Packaging: The front and top of the packaging should be just as clearly visible as the product itself. If it’s clear what the product is just from the packaging itself - you can upload an image that shows the packaging only.

  • Full product showing: If your product is an individual item - only that product should be shown. If it’s a gift set - all items in the product for sale should be clearly shown.

Retailer-specific Guidance and Exceptions:

Retailers are not allowed to feature body, face or human subjects in the item images but some exceptions apply to the following retail categories:

  • Florists: No body, face or persons are allowed in the imagery, unless only a hand or arm is shown to demonstrate the flower arrangement.

  • Pet products: Avoid featuring any dogs, cats, or other animals in the images unless it is imperative that they showcase the product.

  • Jewellery, watches, clothing: Body parts can be displayed if necessary to showcase the product in its true form. For example, wrists can be shown to demonstrate watches, neck - for necklaces, ankle - for ankle jewellery.

2. Aspect Ratio and Size

Aspect ratio is a proportional relationship between an image’s width and height. It defines the image’s shape.

16:9 images are rectangular (picture a widescreen television) - your hero Images should be uploaded in this aspect ratio.

3:2 images are also rectangular but not as wide - your menu item images should be uploaded in this aspect ratio.

The size and shape of an image should meet the requirements below so that the image quality does not change when viewing your menu on mobile or web devices:

  • Landscape orientation

  • Hero image: at least 1920 x 1080 pixels - anything higher than this has to have a 16:9 aspect ratio

  • Menu item image: at least 1200 x 800 pixels - anything higher than this has to have a 3:2 aspect ratio

Cropping

For Menu Item images, always make sure that the entire product is in shot with sufficient space around it, as the platform will crop the images to a 1:1 aspect ratio. We are unable to accept images where the full product is not recognisable.

3. Image Specifications

The images should be saved and uploaded in the following format:

  • Format: All images must be in the JPEG format. We are unable to accept PNG, TIFF, PSD files.

  • Naming: We ask that all images are labelled with the correct product names to help us add photos to your menu quickly.

To check if your image is in the required format:

We do not accept any stock images found on stock websites or search engines.

You shall bear full responsibility for and shall indemnify Deliveroo in full against all losses suffered or incurred by Deliveroo arising out of or in connection with any claim brought against Deliveroo for alleged or actual infringement of a third party's rights (including any Intellectual Property Rights) arising out of, or in connection with any images you provide.
