Using your own images is a quick way to improve your store’s visibility on Deliveroo and help customers clearly understand what they’re ordering.
You can upload your own images directly in Menu Manager. Before doing so, make sure they meet the guidelines below.
Image requirements overview
There are four key requirements:
Product layout and placement
Aspect ratio and size
Image specifications and naming
Rights and legal ownership
All images must meet these standards before being uploaded.
1. Product layout and placement
Good product presentation helps customers quickly understand what they are buying.
Hero images
Hero images appear at the top of your menu.
You can use them to show:
A collection of products
A single hero product
If possible, we recommend showing a collection of products to highlight the variety in your range.
Hero image guidelines
Products should take up most of the frame, with only a small margin around the edges.
Use a simple, uncluttered background so the products stand out.
Do not overcrowd the image.
Avoid overly edited or heavily photoshopped images.
Avoid laying items flat. Where possible, photograph products in a free-standing position.
Logo placement tips
If you add your own logo:
Place it centrally in the image so it is clearly visible.
Make sure it does not overlap the product.
Avoid placing it too close to the edges, as it may be cropped on some devices.
Human subjects
No body, face, or full human subjects should appear in hero images.
Some limited exceptions apply to specific retail categories (see Item Images section below).
Item images
Item images should show the exact product the customer will receive.
General guidelines:
Focus
The product must be clearly visible and in focus.
Avoid grainy or pixelated images.
If multiple items are shown, at least one must be clearly visible and in focus.
Background
Use a white background wherever possible.
Neutral backgrounds are acceptable if needed to highlight the product.
Use natural light where possible to avoid dark shadows or reflections.
Text and branding
Do not add extra text or branding outside of the product itself.
Any visible branding must be part of the product packaging.
Packaging
The front and top of the packaging should be clearly visible.
If the packaging clearly shows what the product is, you may upload an image of the packaging only.
Full product showing
If the product is a single item, only that item should be shown.
If it is a bundle or gift set, all included items must be clearly visible.
Retail-specific guidance and exceptions
Retailers must not include body, face or full human subjects in item images.
Exceptions:
Florists: A hand or arm may be shown only if necessary to demonstrate the arrangement.
Pet products: Avoid featuring animals unless it is essential to demonstrate the product.
Jewellery, watches, clothing: Body parts (e.g. wrist, neck, ankle) may be shown if necessary to showcase the product properly.
2. Aspect Ratio and Size
Aspect ratio is a proportional relationship between an image’s width and height. It mages must meet the correct aspect ratio and minimum size requirements.
Hero images
Aspect ratio: 16:9
Minimum size: 1920 x 1080 pixels
Larger sizes must still follow the 16:9 ratio
Landscape orientation only
Menu item images
Aspect ratio: 3:2
Minimum size: 1200 x 800 pixels
Larger sizes must still follow the 3:2 ratio
Landscape orientation only
Cropping
Menu item images are automatically cropped to a 1:1 (square) ratio on the platform.
Make sure:
The entire product is visible.
There is enough space around the product.
The product remains fully recognisable after cropping.
We cannot accept images where the full product is not visible.
3. Image Specifications and Naming
File format
All images must be:
JPEG format (.jpg)
We do not accept:
PNG
TIFF
PSD
Image naming (required)
Image file names must exactly match:
The item name in Menu Manager

This ensures we can quickly and accurately match images to your menu items.
