What has been announced today?
Deliveroo has taken the difficult decision to exit Australia.
Deliveroo Australia is undergoing a voluntary administration process and has appointed administrators to manage the company during the process.
For more information on the administration process, please visit the administrators’ website at: https://kordamentha.com/creditors.
What is the role of the administrator?
The administrator takes over the day-to-day running of the company during the process of Deliveroo exiting the Australian market.
KordaMentha has been formally appointed as administrators for this process, who will now manage Deliveroo’s Australian business. For more information on the administration process, please visit the administrators’ website at: https://kordamentha.com/creditors.
Why are you closing the Australian market?
We are committed to driving profitable growth and delivering on our path to profitability. We aim to have strong, profitable businesses in each of the markets in which we operate.
Unfortunately, in Australia, Deliveroo does not hold a broad base of strong local positions and we have determined that it would require a disproportionate level of investment, with uncertain returns, to reach and sustain a top tier market position.
Are you looking to close down any other markets?
There are currently no plans to take similar action in other markets. This announcement concerns Australia only.
What happens to my restaurant account?
Deliveroo has ceased trading today, November 16. After the ceasing of operations, you will still be able to access your restaurant account on Restaurant Hub for 6 months after we leave the market and after this period your restaurant account will be closed. While your account is open, please make sure to download any data you deem necessary within this deadline.
Why couldn’t you manage to improve the service sufficiently in Australia?
We aim to have strong, profitable businesses in each of the markets in which we operate. Key to this is having leading positions in the key locations within markets in which we operate.
Unfortunately, this is not the case in Australia and we have determined that it would require a disproportionate level of investment, with uncertain returns, to reach and sustain a top tier market position.
