Who is this for?

This guidance is for partners who may be considering listing sharp objects, DIY tools, or similar items on the Deliveroo platform. It explains which items fall under restrictions, why they are unsupported and what actions you may need to take to remain compliant.

  • What are ‘sharps’ and why are some restricted?

  • Why does this matter?

  • I’m an existing Deliveroo partner

  • What happens if I do not follow these requirements?

What are ‘sharps’ and why are some restricted?

"Sharps" refers to any item with a blade, point or cutting edge that may pose a risk if misused. While some sharp tools serve everyday or professional purposes (for example, in cooking, crafting, often DIY), certain items may be considered dangerous or restricted under local laws and regulations. Many are classified as offensive weapons under the Offensive Weapons Act 2019 (applicable within the United Kingdom only), particularly if they are capable of causing serious injury.

Understandably, context matters. However, Deliveroo does not support the sale of items that:

  • Are restricted or prohibited under applicable local laws

  • Fall under the OWA 2019

  • Could be reasonably described as a knife, blade or sharp weapon

  • Could be repurposed to cause harm, regardless of the marketing approach.

Why does this matter?

At Deliveroo, we are committed to complying with all applicable local laws and regulations, including those governing the sale and delivery of bladed or potentially dangerous items. In addition to legal compliance, we prioritise customer safety and aim to prevent the misuse of items that could cause harm, even when the intended use is legitimate.

As part of this commitment, we take a zero-tolerance approach to items that are prohibited by local laws or that could reasonably be considered offensive weapons.

For more information on relevant laws in your area, please refer to official government or regulatory guidance.

Unsupported sharp items include, but are not limited to:

Category

Examples

Kitchen Knives

Bread knives, carving knives

DIY tools

Stanley knives, box cutters, snap-off blades, utility knives

Craft tools

Hobby blades, modelling knives, scalpel-style tools

Loose blades

Razor blades, replacement knife blades

I’m an existing Deliveroo partner — do I need to take action?

Yes. You should:

  • Review your menu to ensure none of your products fall into restricted categories listed above.

  • Remove any non-compliant items immediately from the menu.

  • If you're unsure whether a product qualifies as a restricted sharp item, please contact your Account Manager or Deliveroo support for further guidance.

Listings that breach this policy may be removed without notice. Repeated or serious violations can result in suspension or termination from the platform.

What happens if I do not follow these requirements?

Deliveroo closely monitors the platform for products that breach our Restricted Items policy. If a non-compliant item is detected:

  • It will be removed from your menu without notice.

  • Repeated or serious breaches, such as the listing of sharps; may result in your store being suspended or permanently removed from the platform.
